stove top

electrolux stove.jpgnow that the world series is over (yeeeeeeeeeey-hah, joe blanton!!!), we've got my least favorite baseball time of year: hot stove time. beginning a few days ago and leading up to spring training, feel free to whip out the tissue paper and wipe your tearing eyes over a's departures (except for mr. dan meyer lemon bar himself.  i never felt like he reached anywhere near his supposed potential here. maybe the humidity or the blinding orange bleachers will help him find it in florida. hint: try looking for it on discount at the sawgrass mills outlets! they carry absolutely everything.). i'll also be bawling every time a certain someone insists on watching basketball. depending on the new hires (please, big guy, don't sign giambi!!!), you also have permission to celebrate.

for now, let's have a moment of silence for those a's who have declared or are on their way to free agency: emil brown, alan embree, keith foulke (ok, i'm cheering at this one. sorry keith.), and frank thomas.

leahs cake.JPGand while we're at it, i vow to put my hot stove into overtime, perfecting (or at least experimenting with) recipes for next season. like this mini chocolate cake with chocolate-coffee buttercream that i made for a friend's birthday. with a 4" cutter in hand, i crafted a personal-sized layer cake that rivals just about any i've ever tasted. and yes, i've tasted a lot of chocolate cake in the last 28+ years. now how do i sweet talk a cake past security and into the bullpen?
