October 2007

so long, farewell...

dear billy, bob, and co.,

you pulled out all the sneaky guns and announced the departure of coach fischer over the weekend. did you think i wouldn't notice just because the press release went out around 7pm on saturday night, a time that i had obviously devoted to playing doubles tennis on our neighbor's Wii?  because i did. my arm may be mighty sore, but i still had the strength to check the sites and learn that my faves are no more. sniff. also of note, brandon buckley, bullpen catcher and cookie devouring extraordinare, isn't returning (reported via the chronicle).

how am i supposed to keep baking for a bullpen and bullpen coach that rotate more often than my socks? now the newbies will just think,"oh, there's that crazy cookie girl. why does she keep bringing us baseball-inspired delectable treats packed tightly in green and gold paper inside a recyclable white box?" and who is going to shake my hand and thank me before displaying his baseball prowess by protecting the pitchers when they're warming up, all while chomping on a 7-layer bar?

and you also said sayonara to coach lachemann, a guy whose name i'm just beginning to learn how to spell (and whose helmet i totally admire)...

on a different note, where was the jason kendall baseball card in the baseball card set on sept. 30? because i'd really like to trade in my joe kennedy and esteban loaiza ones for it.

full of questions and angst,
becca

smooth as (peanut) butter

Cookies_1so this is it-- the last baking-related post of the season. i wanted to revisit one of my favorite recipes from the past few months, so i modified the peanut butter thumbprint cookies. these had the same cookie base, but also incorporated a mixture of organic peanut butter and chocolate chips. very moist and just right for the last day of september! after much debate, i named them closer closure cookies.

Handshakei packed about two dozen into a sturdy little box and dragged them down to the bullpen right before the game, where i got a mighty fine handshake from coach fischer, who again reiterated that he really, really appreciates all the hard work i've put in this season. gee, coach, really? like A+ material? can i go to spring training next year? pretty please?

elated after our little pep talk, i floated back to my seat and tried to wipe the huge grin off of my face through the first inning, which made me think that those bullpen dudes have a wonderful coach down there with them. or at least one who appreciates a good hand mixer.  (and p.s., to the green/white hat person, you're in the way of the picture! argh.)
