we're tight like dat
orioles were out in droves last night: several baseball-playing orioles on the field and a winged few flying like mad around the coliseum. it was a tight game (can we puh-leaze work on those 1-run games, guys?), but what was even tighter was the thank you i got from coach brad fischer when delivering the treat of the day, oreo-l truffles. it seems he really, really appreciates my baking. gee, thanks, coach! that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
for the truffles, i used a recipe that's pretty common and all over the 'net. for personal reasons, i substituted trader joe's joe joes cookies for oreos. i also split the batch in two, using a combination of trader joe's dark and milk chocolate bars for one of the coatings, and trader joe's semi-sweet chocolate chips and a few milk chocolate squares for the other. personally, i think the semi-sweet variation gave more texture and depth to the truffle. the melted truffle bar option was a little too sweet and the sheen too smooth. these chocolate truffles are really easy to make, requiring just a few easy steps and no real baking. does that mean i have to rename myself the bullpen maker? plus, they're so simple, the bullpen can make these for their wives/girlfriends/moms on an off day! enjoy.
